CEO Message

Together, we can discover your fullest potential.

Jennifer Keovongsa, LMHC
Founder/Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) is used for the treatment of chronically suicidal and self-injurious individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD). DBT was created by Dr. Marsha Linehan, a psychologist, who used her own insights from living successfully with BPD to develop this novel therapy

  • DBT – (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is a treatment and self-management approach used in individual, or group therapy settings.
  • It is designed to enhance life and help you “build a life worth living”.
  • The premise is for you to take ownership of your life by learning how to cope effectively, instead of living in quiet desperation.

You will work with a DBT trained therapist to learn and understand how to apply life skills grounded on five key foundational areas:

  • Mindfulness
  • Distress Tolerance
  • Emotion Regulation
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness
  • Walking the Middle Path
  • Weekly individual (one-to-one) therapy
  • Weekly skills-training sessions, usually in the form of groups
  • As-needed phone skills coaching between client and therapist outside of scheduled sessions
  • DBT was originally developed for individuals who suffered from borderline personality disorder, a psychological condition in which people have great difficulty managing their emotions.
  • DBT has also been adapted to treat other psychological problems including impulsive behaviors, suicidal and self-injurious behavior in adolescents, treatment-resistant depression, and substance use problems that sometimes occurs with BPD.
  • Not all clients are recommended for DBT counseling sessions. We also provide non-DBT counseling.
